Sizing for big and multiple vehicles
The plot carport is sized by the tallest and widest thing on the stand, not by the cars. A boat on a trailer, a caravan and a double-cab with a canopy each need clearance a sedan does not, so the two numbers that change are beam height and span. Get them wrong and the caravan roof scrapes or the boat will not reverse in; get them right and one structure covers the lot.
| What you park | Beam height | Suggested structure |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan / hatch | 2.1 m | Single or double |
| Double-cab bakkie + canopy | 2.4 – 2.7 m | Raised single or double |
| Boat on a trailer | 2.7 – 3.0 m | Triple with mid-post bay |
| Caravan | 2.9 – 3.0 m | Four-bay |
| Bakkie + boat + caravan + car | 3.0 m | Four-bay 12m × 6m |
Mid-posts, spans and reversing a trailer
A boat or a caravan on a trailer has to reverse into its bay, so the post layout matters as much as the height. KB Carports sets the mid-posts to line up with the gaps between vehicles, giving a clear reversing run for the trailer without a leg in the wrong place, and uses heavier galvanised steel sections and deep cast footings because a wide, tall roof on open veld carries more hail, wind and uplift. The size maths behind each bay is on the carport sizes guide.
Commercial and fleet carports
The same wide-span, heavy-footing build covers business vehicles. In the Isando, Wadeville and Germiston industrial zones, KB Carports fits fleet, delivery-vehicle and staff-parking carports — long multi-bay runs that shade and protect a working lot. These are quoted per bay and scheduled around trading hours, as set out under carport installation. The plot belts where this work concentrates — Bapsfontein, the Benoni holdings, Bredell and Petit — are served from the central and northern area teams. Price a multi-bay structure on the carport prices in Ekurhuleni page.
Common questions
What size carport covers a bakkie, boat, caravan and car?
A four-bay 12m × 6m carport at a 3.0 m beam height covers a bakkie, a boat on a trailer, a caravan and a car together — the defining East Rand plot setup — from R27,000 supplied and installed. The mid-posts are set to leave a clear reversing run for the trailers.
How tall does a carport need to be for a caravan?
A carport for a caravan needs a beam height of about 2.9–3.0 m so the caravan roof and any roof-mounted units clear the structure. Measure the tallest point and add 300 mm; a boat on a trailer usually needs the same 2.7–3.0 m.
Do you build carports on East Rand agricultural holdings?
Yes. The plots and agricultural holdings at Bapsfontein, the Benoni holdings, Bredell and Petit are the core of this work — wide, tall four-bay structures on cast footings sized for open-veld wind, designed to the holding's zoning rules.
Do you fit commercial and fleet carports?
Yes. KB Carports fits fleet, delivery-vehicle and staff-parking carports in the Isando, Wadeville and Germiston industrial zones, using the same wide-span, heavily-footed steel build, quoted per bay and scheduled around a working yard.
